On January 15, 2009, I started the first stage of my treatment in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I have to share so much with you. If you will like to follow my new journey; subscribe and read my blog for updates.
My Story...
I have been searching for more than a year for a doctor to treat me with stem cell and is why I called this website I WANT OUT OF THIS CHAIR!
My story is a kind of complicated; in the past, I have 6 miss-diagnoses. In 1992, I started losing the strength in my muscle, until May 1993
my condition got so worst and I lose rapidly all my strength and ability to breathe and moved in my native country, Puerto Rico. At first, the doctors thought that I had a brain tumor dream due a MRI and almost sent me to a hospital for treatment. Secondly, the doctors thought that I had MS and even treat me with steroids. Thirdly, I got diagnosed with a malformation of a vein in the cervical area in the spine.
My condition got worst and the doctors in Puerto Rico told my mother to take me to the United States for help. At that time, the prognosis was Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. which was the final conclusion at that time after been admitted for a month at the Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York and every test came back negative.
Once again the doctor failed because I did not die after six years and I was breaking the world the record of ALS without deterioration. Once again, the doctors reviewed my records and came out with the new diagnose which was, Primary Lateral Sclerosis (PLS).
Years later, I did the text for Lyme disease which came back positive with numbers very high. I was treating for a year and half with antibiotics.
Right Now, I breath well; although, I suffer with of Dysarthria which I have learned to understand it with speech therapy. My range of motion is excellent because I have been extensively doing physical and occupational therapy for 10 years. I walk with a little with assistance, I'm married, doing a bachelor degree in sociology, and wrote this letter to you with assistive technology.
I know the two words: able body and as a disabled. In my new world, everything is a project! Throughout the years, I have to learn how to modify my life; for example, learn how to describe what do I want and how efficiently even to ask for a glass of water. Every little thing that I took for granted when I was perfectly fine, now becomes so difficult.
My hope is still strong and now more than ever! I want to get out of this chair! My mother and friends in Puerto Rico saw a television show called, “Marcano”. There was a segment about this Doctor; his’ name is Dr. Osvaldo Font who has developed many wonders with medicine by renewing people life. At the show, he introduced a woman who was paralyzed for eight year in a wheelchair. “She is walking!” my mom said, I started crying of joy. What impressed my mother the most was the doctor comment; “Everything is for the Glory of Our Lord”
I’m so ready! I am coming out of this chair! I want to make difference!
